For the Week of October 15- 18

Psalm 86:13, 'Great is your love toward me.'

You already see the ways I will fall short and mess up. But right now, I consciously tuck Your whisper of absolute love for me into the deepest part of my heart. I recognize Your love for me is not based on my performance. You love me warts and all. That's amazing. But what's most amazing is that the Savior of the world would desire a few minutes with me this morning. Lord, help me to forever remember what a gift it is to sit with You like this. Amen."

For the Week of September 4-7

Welcome to all those returning and to all the new students and families to St. Matthew Catholic School. This year is going to be another fun-filled year with some changes.

As you may have noticed, we are getting an addition to the school. 4 more classrooms will be added to the school as we are growing every year and couldn't be more proud.
We are hoping to be moving into the new classrooms by November so until then we will be using alternative entrances into the school which students will learn about on the first day.

We'd like to start your new year off with a Blessing to bring you a fresh, bright school year.

Prayer for the Start of the School Year

Loving God,
Our creator, our saviour, our companion,
bless this journey of a new school year that we undertake today.
Refresh our souls
and renew our spirits
as we embrace the beautiful ministry you have called us to.
We welcome those who are new to this community and
ask that you strengthen them to share the wonderful gifts you have given
them.
Lord, make our hearts pure as we prepare for the return of students to this
school,
and may you guide them to return with open hearts and minds eager to learn.
We ask this in Your name,
Amen

First Addition Week at a Glance 2018-2019

Just over a week before we begin another exhilarating school year! WoW!!  Where did the summer go?

Admin, teachers, office and support staff have been busy getting ready for the upcoming school year.  We hope you are refreshed and ready to tackle on your next year.

Few reminders before the first day of school:

*Friday, August 31st at 2:30 pm is Meet the Staff.  Students can pick up school supplies or bring in your own, get acquainted with your homeroom teacher and your school schedule.  A perfect way to get rid of any "jitters" you may be feeling about the first day of school.  Once meeting your teacher and some new friends...FIRST DAY will be a BREEZE!

*September 4th, First Day of School!

      One week before school:

1. Start your School Sleep Routine

Routines can be relaxed in the summer, so a week prior to school is a good time to adjust the family schedule to get everyone back into morning and bedtime habits.

Establish bed times for the school year and start following them
Ensure the entire family is up when they would be for school
For older children, give them their own alarm clock and let them practice using it
Ensure that the entire family get involved so that your child doesn’t feel alone with these changes

 2. Promote Healthy Eating Habits

Nutrition is extremely important; it’s hard to cope well when you are tired or hungry, so provide your child nutritious and frequent snacks and build in regular routines.

Start having your meals around regular mealtimes
Ask your child to help you create a school lunch menu for the first week of school
Allow your child to pick out his or her favourite snacks
Allow your child to help you plan your dinner meals -this way s(he) will have a yummy dinner to look forward to

3. Shop for Supplies

Make picking out school supplies a fun task!

Create a list of school supplies with your child
Plan a fun shopping trip to pick out supplies

4. Encourage Your Child to Share His or Her Fears

Talk to your child about his or her worries and practice coping skills

Touch base with your child at a regular time each day to discuss your child’s worries and encourage him or her to problem solve and plan
        Role-play with your child
Focus on the positive aspects – ask your child to list the three things that s(he)is most excited about on the first day
Practice calm breathing with your child – s(he) can learn to use this when her anxiety rises
Develop cognitive coping cards that your child can use to help cope with anxiety

A couple of days before school:

5. Do a dry-run

Go to school several times – walking, driving, or going to the bus pick up zone
For young children, describe and draw out the route and include how long it will take
For younger children, go to the schoolyard and play a few times before the first day of school

6. Tour the School - Meet the Staff -

For new students, take a tour of the school
Show your child the classrooms and the bathrooms
Meet your child’s teacher with your child present, if possible

7. Plan the Outfits

Ask your child to help choose the outfits for the first week of school
Let your child pick out his or her favorite outfit for the first day

8. Pack the Backpack

Together with your child, pack the backpack the night before, including treats

9. Choose a Special Object

For younger children who are nervous about separating, suggest taking a special object to school that reminds him or her of home
Put a reassuring note in a child’s lunch can also help ease separation anxiety

The first day of school:

10. Walk with a Friend

Try and arrange that your child walks with a friend to school for the first couple of days
Arrange play days with school mates leading up to the first day

11. Talk to the Teacher

Let the teacher know that your child is having some separation anxiety

12. Praise and Reward

Most importantly, praise and reward your child for brave behavior!

For the Week of September 10-14

We hope your first week was a smooth transition back into the everyday school routine.  We have a few events this week and a few reminders for the upcoming school year.

Let's start with a Blessing for the week ahead,

Lord, bless our journey
through this coming week.
May the pace be steady,
paths made safe,
no obstacles impede,
and conversations
with fellow travellers
be fruitful and uplifting.
Lord, bless our journey
through this coming week.

In Jesus,

Amen

For the Week of September 17-21

Lord, as I start this week, I acknowledge that You are God; You are powerful, good and gracious.

There is no one like You, and I praise Your great name!

You are holy, and there is no other name under heaven by which I receive life and salvation except through Jesus (Act 4:12).

I depend on Your strength and declare that as I wait on You, my strength is being renewed; I will mount up with wings like an eagle, I will run and not be weary, I will walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).

I dedicate this week to You and trust that as I make plans, you are directing my steps (Prov. 16:9).

I declare that Your goodness and mercy surround me every moment (Ps 23:6); I am of good courage, and God strengthens my heart because I hope in Him (Ps. 31:24).

Your Kingdom is advancing in my life, and I choose to cooperate with the Holy Spirit as He develops love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control in my life (Gal 5:22-23).

This week, I decide to submit myself to God and resist the devil, and the devil will flee from me (James 4:7)!

I put aside everything that tries to weigh me down along with the sin that tries to entangle me; I will run with endurance the race that is set before me, looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Nothing will get me off track; I stand firm no matter what because I’m walking by faith, not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7).

Thank you, Lord, for transforming me and changing me from glory to glory (2 Cor. 3:18).

I know that as I seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, all the other things I need will be added to me including food, clothing, shelter, financial provision, healing and hope (Matt. 6:33).

I know that no matter what happens, You are in control and You are faithful. I will be faithful to serve and love You.

I choose to forgive everyone who has wronged me, and I thank You, Lord, for forgiving me for the times I’ve failed You (Matt. 6:14-15).

I will diligently obey Your voice, Lord, and I’ll carefully observe all Your commandments, believing that Your blessings will come upon me and overtake me because I obey Your voice (Deut. 28:1-2).

As I make You my refuge, I thank You that no evil will come near me and that Your angels are protecting me (Ps. 91:9-11). “If God is for [me], who can be against [me]” (Romans 8:31)?

I will see victory after victory this week because You are for me and because nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).

Thank you, Lord, for hearing me!
